Thu Sep 13, 2001 - 9:55 PM EDT - By James Hromadka

Handspring will release on Monday two new Visor models: the Visor Neo and Visor Pro, as well as a 16 MB Backup module and a Handspring-branded eyemodule2. Here are the details on the new Visors:

Visor Pro
  • 16 MB of memory (finally!)
  • Rechargeable
  • 4-bit grayscale (16 shades of gray)
  • Silver color
  • Blinking LED (Silent Alarm)
  • Fast Lookup feature (also found in Visor Edge)
  • 33 MHz Dragonball VZ processor
  • $299

Visor Neo
  • New entry level model
  • 8 MB of memory
  • Uses 2 AAA batteries
  • 4-bit grayscale (16 shades of gray)
  • Available in Smoke, Red, and Blue (which pill do you take?)
  • Blinking LED (Silent Alarm)
  • Fast Lookup feature
  • 33 MHz Dragonball VZ processor

As for the Springboard modules, the eyemodule2 is being branded by Handspring and sold for $199. The new 16 MB Backup module is $59.99. There are also other new accessories that will be introduced, including a belt holster for your modules (I hope there's a yellow one) and a Stylus 3-pack.

The new Visors are evolutionary in nature. The Visor Deluxe needed a bump of some kind, what with it turning two years old tomorrow, but it would have been nice to see a Prism update as well. I love my Memplug, but I would love to have a 16 MB Visor Prism without voiding my warrenty.

Update: Sorry about the module snafu -- the press release wasn't very clear
