3COM and Palm's relationship

Tue Jan 25, 2000 - 9:38 AM EST - By James Hromadka

The LA Times has this interview with 3COM CEO Eric Benhamou, where he discusses how disconcerting it is to see people speak on cell phones to someone accross the room, the challenge of interconnectivity for the masses, and the future relationship between 3COM and Palm, Inc.

"So 3Com has a license to the Palm OS, and 3Com is building other kinds of Internet appliances that leverage the Palm OS. But these will not be hand-held because 3Com will not compete with Palm. 3Com will be part of the Palm economy. . . .
We figured that the opportunity was so vast that we had to optimize for speed. And a small, nimble company is more up to speed."
