PC Magazine awards

Tue Nov 14, 2000 - 8:51 AM EST - By James Hromadka

PC Magazine announced its winners in its 2000 Technical Excellence Awards program today. Here are two notable winners mentioned in the press release:
Design
Think Outside Stowaway Portable Keyboard, Think Outside Inc. - No bigger than a Palm device, the eight-ounce Stowaway unfolds into a full-size keyboard that rivals those found on the best portable computers. The engineering wizardry behind it makes the Stowaway a marvel of design.

Lifetime Achievement
Jeff Hawkins, cofounder and chairman, Handspring - After serving as chief designer at GRID Systems, developing the first stylus-based, hand-held computer, Hawkins was involved in every incarnation of the PDA. The concept of "organizing my life" became the basis for his Palm PDA. In 1998, he started Handspring and created the Visor.
I think it's a little early to hand out "lifetime achievement" awards to Hawkins -- the best is yet to come! Congrats to both winners.
