New Springboard camera from Targus

Wed Nov 28, 2001 - 1:23 PM EST - By Marcus Adolfsson

Targus has now officially introduced the Targus HandCam Springboard digital camera, which we first got a glimpse during Comdex.

Weighing only 1.4 ounces, this lightweight digital camera module easily connects to all Visor models via the Springboard external expansion slot. The Targus HandCam features 640 x 480 resolution and a swivel base for image capture from many angles.

Included with the HandCam is a clip-on dock with a USB connection that can attach the HandCam to the edge of an open notebook or other stationary object. This dock allows the users to employ the HandCam as a stand-alone web cam or still image camera.

"Multimedia formats like digital images and streaming video are now widely used by mobile professionals," said John Sargent, Vice President of Communications, Targus. "Targus has a commitment to mobile pros: provide them with the best, most affordable accessory products that make portable computing easier, faster and more enjoyable. For that reason, we're excited to bring the new HandCam digital camera to market."

"The HandCam digital camera offers exciting new options for our Visor customers, such as its web cam capabilities and sending images to a computer via the infrared port," said Rita Sharma, business development manager for Handspring. "With HandCam, Targus is continuing to build on its popular line of products that bring new capabilities to Visors, including the Total Recall digital voice recorder Springboard module and the Targus Stowaway Portable keyboard."

Additional features include wireless IR image transfer to and from a PDA and computer, 24-Bit True Color digital image capture and two megabytes of on-board memory. The Targus HandCam comes bundled with Arcsoft Photo Impression 3.0 and Microsoft(tm) Net Meeting(tm) software.

The Targus HandCam Springboard digital camera for the Visor will be available beginning late November for $99 through www.targus.com and www.port.com.

The HandCam will also be available from major retailers and e-tailers nationwide, including PalmGear.com, CompUSA, Best Buy and others.
