Mac Office 2001 to support HotSync

Sat Jun 17, 2000 - 7:15 PM EDT - By James Hromadka

This InfoWorld article discusses Microsoft Office 2001 for the Mac and some of the new features that the suite will have that are not in the Windows version. The following two paragraphs caught my eye:
Office 2001's e-mail and PIM software will feature support for Santa Clara, Calif.-based Palm Inc. handhelds, according to Kwong. "Users will be able to sync their data with Palm handhelds," he said. However, Office 2001 will not feature support for synchronizing data with Microsoft's Pocket PC, the rival to Palm's handheld devices.

"This is incredibly stupid," Rob Enderle, senior industry analyst at Giga Information Group, in Santa Clara, Calif., in a phone interview Thursday. "But, more Mac users have Palms, so it made sense for them [Microsoft] to go the Palm way."
Now if only the Windows version would do that as well.
