Updated: Modems get cheaper

Thu Jul 19, 2001 - 10:55 PM EDT - By James Hromadka

Some modem manufacturers are practically giving them away these days. Handspring doesn't even list its 33.6 modem on its website anymore, but you can buy it for $39.99 at Amazon (thanks to Danny A for the link).

Card Access has a $30 rebate on its regular Thinmodem (normally $119.95). The offer is good from July 15 to September 30. Click here for the rebate form (PDF). Speaking of Card Access, their Audible Advisor Springboard module is almost finished. Expect final details soon.

In other modem news, the Xircom SpringPort 56 modem is now just $89, explaining the Thinmodem rebate.

Are modem manufacturers seeing the handwriting on the wall and moving to wireless? Both Card Access and Xircom have wireless solutions of some form.
