Updated: Handspring donations to Red Cross

Thu Sep 13, 2001 - 10:19 PM EDT - By James Hromadka

The Handspring Foundation will be donating 500 Visor Deluxes and 500 VisorPhones to the Red Cross, NYPD, and NYFD to help workers communicate in the aftermath of the devastation caused by Tuesday's attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

This is in response to a plea by the Red Cross for technology donations. VoiceStream has also agreed to provide GSM wireless service on the VisorPhones.

Handspring took this step after VisorCentral reader Andy Fundinger emailed them asking for their help. Way to go Andy!

Following in Handspring's footsteps, Think Outside, the maker of the Stowaway keyboard, donated 100 Visor keyboards to go with the Visor units that Handspring donated.

This is a great gesture by Handspring. I still am in shock over the entire event. I heard a plane fly overhead for the first time since the tragedy, and I looked on with sadness. I work in Houston and have a great view of downtown, and every day I think about how it could have happened here. America must move on, but America will never be the same.

Please help out in whatever way you can. Donate blood, buy from VisorCentral's charity auction, or donate directly to the Red Cross.

Also, the VisorCentral Awards have been pushed back to starting on 9/24.
