Introduction » Development Conclusion
Development The real advantage of the CSM150 is that it opens up tremendous possibilities
for the development of applications geared towards consumers, data collection
environments, helpdesk support and asset/inventory tracking. Development
languages currently on the market, such as
CASL allow integration of
CSM150 functionality directly into your own applications. CASL accomplishes this
through the CASL_SPT external library. To add scanning capability to a new or
existing application, include this library into your project and add a few lines
of code to handle the Trigger event.
An excellent example of how this can be accomplished is included during the
installation of CASLPro in the “Samples/CASLPro Samples/Scanner” directory.
Using CASLPro, applications can be complied to true .PRC files and eliminate the
need for a run-time library.
There are many other programming languages available for the PalmOS® that allow
taking advantage of the scanning capabilities of the CSM150. Some languages will
allow use of this functionality at an additional cost, while others make use of
freely available libraries. Before deciding to integrate CSM150 (or Symbol
barcode scanning support) to your application, be sure to determine if there is
additional cost associated to use those libraries. Symbol also includes further
information on their website about other development
environments and libraries that are available. Conclusion >>
