When
one thinks of the Handspring Visor, the first feature that comes to mind is the innovative Springboard slot. The Visor has brought forth the promise of infinite expandability by using small modules that are about the size of a GameBoy cartridge but do so much more. Springboard modules have been slow to come out, but these past few weeks have fortold
of great things to come. The winner of the Springboard Module of the Year not only fulfills that promise, it expands on it by going the
extra mile for the user.
Winner: MiniJam
by InnoGear
When the Visor was first announced, so came the announcement of an MP3
Player from InnoGear. Through component shortages and the struggles
of building a new company, InnoGear worked diligently to bring us the MiniJam,
the first MP3 Springboard module to be released for the Visor. The
MiniJam brings expandability to the Visor by using MulitMedia Cards (MMCs)
for storage, allowing the user to carry as many or as few songs as they
want. The MiniJam goes the extra mile for users by offering features
such as Mac compatibility and additional applications, as well as high
quality earphones and PalmOS data storage.
James: What's not to love? The MiniJam has
excellent hardware buttons and includes the Plus version of MusicMatch.
Do yourself a favor and get the 64 MB version.
Marcus: Innogear has finally deliverd a solid product that
will only get better with time.
Honorable Mention: SoundsGood
by Good Technology
This is a fantastic module that offers users a lightning fast file transfer
rate and long battery life in the shape of a standard-size Springboard
module. With nice extras like a waveform and a Volume wheel, the
SoundsGood is a very close contender in this category.
