GPS gets more accurate

Mon May 1, 2000 - 4:38 PM EDT - By James Hromadka

President Clinton today gave the go-ahead to allow personal GPS units to have the same accuracy that the U.S. military has in their GPS units as of 8 p.m. EST tonight.

GPS receivers will now be up to ten times more accurate. Previously, civilian GPS signals were scrambled to make them less accurate.
