New PalmOS Virus

Fri Sep 22, 2000 - 1:06 PM EDT - By James Hromadka

The first non-trojan PalmOS virus has been found. From the Internet News article:
Dubbed PalmOS/Phage.1325., this hungry new creature quietly infects an application when it is launched. The bug fills the device with a black box, killing the [application]. It makes it seem as though files have been killed when they really haven't been.
The virus then infects other PalmOS applications. The PalmOS/Phage has not been found in the wild, so currently it has been deemed a low risk. There's also some additional info on the virus from McAffee.

A new trojan, PalmOS/Vapor, turns on the hidden bit for all 3rd-party applications, making it seem as if they have been removed. A hard-reset and HotSync will restore the user's data.

Thanks to Bret Snyder for the news. Click here to discuss the Virus. Time to buy a Backup module.
