OmniSky includes the PalmVII PQA support that we talked about above. YadaYada doesn't supprt PQAs. OmniSky also includes downloadable support for AOL-Email and preinstalls Yahoo! Messenger.
YadaYada includes a Color App Launcher, but more importantly they include the Minstrel FileMover application. This app provides access to the additional 1 meg of flash RAM in the Minstrel Modem. I don't know why OmniSky didn't include this support. It's unrelated to Wireless Internet Service, but it's a nice add-on for the power user. Kudos to YadaYada for this additional support.
Both services let you use any TCP/IP Palm App out there, like Blazer, AvantGo, AOL Instant Messenger
Value for Dollar
Both services are basically $40 a month for unlimited usage. OmniSky
adds a $400 unlimited yearly plan that save you $80 if you're phat
enough to drop the money up front. That's a nice option for those who
can do it.
Until 1/31/01 OmniSky will give you the Minstrel Modem for $99 if you sign up for 6 months. After that, you'll need to sign up for a year. YadaYada charges you $299. Both services will let you jump ship to the other (if you have completed your contract, or are paying month-to-month without a contract).
Personally I think $40 is a little steep; I'd rather spend $19.95, and I
wince each month I pay it. But, we are early adopters, and that's the price you
pay. Wireless Service does kick booty and pays for itself when you retrieve that
crucial email in a cab, or get notification that your plane has changed gates.
