saftware cannot compare to Magellan |
The Geode works well as a straight GPS, but the map coverage is very poor and the software is slow and feature poor. Look at the Magellan unit for excellent software and maps

Handy GPS stinks too. |

If you know what GPS is... you know what they are doing is great! |
Before posting my review - I read all the others.
I have one thing to say, "I am amazed at the lack of understanding of what GPS is
and what GeoDiscovery adds to our world." Now, my comments. #1 I am surprised that the
Geode operates reasonably well inside a vehicle (you should be happy it works inside
a car at all). Inside a vehicle, there is enough metal between you and the satellites to
stop a signal cold. The fact that the unit is responsive enough to work inside a car (at all)
is a definite plus. #2 If you are going to use it in a vehicle, and you 'need' the signal...
invest in a cheap re-radiator (I own an RV and bought just such a gem from a company in
canada, TRI M if I remember right, cost was about $69) and your signal woes will abate.
Don't moan about having to buy more stuff... NO ONE PROMISES THAT SUCH DEVICES WORK PERFECTLY
WITHOUT SEEING SATELLITES! These are GPS facts and not issues with GeoDiscovery. Trying to pin
all of this on them is an open statement to the world - "hey, I am ignorant... kick me in the butt."
Read up a bit and I am sure you will be surprised at what they are really doing, in fact it
is amazing what kind of community and experience they offer, its not just GPS.
There isn't anyone close to this... no one. As far as the software goes - So what... they
deliver updates and take suggestions on what features to include in future versions.
And what about the hardware? - its a piece of heaven.

Flash me baby! |
So, what GPS's do you know of that can change with the times? The new features posted on GeoForum (http://geoforum.geodiscovery.com)
solve 95% of everyones issues... It is clear that GeoDiscovery is committed to a lasting solution. - a more than satisfied Geode owner!

Not worth $300 + Visor |
Well many reviews here are forgiving of quirks and problems lets be honest, when you add the cost of the Visor and the "imperfect" operation problems of the Geode you have a pretty expensive sub par GPS

New designs take time |
There's lots said already that I needn't repeat here. Is the software still 'semi-beta'? Yep. Is the hardware sometimes a bit quirky? Yep. However, the fact that the hardware is flash-upgradable and that any software can be fixed puts this GPS miles ahead of the competition, IMHO.
GeoDiscovery shows every indication of being a company that's going to 'get there' with the software, so I'm more than willing to wait for its evolution.

Great product - Fast and accurate |
I like how the Geode accesses the satellite information and how it integrates with the maps.

Great Product - Still rough but getting there |
I have had better luck than some apparently but I see a product that definately will be an excellent product in coming months or even weeks. I have had no trouble having it get locks or "keep" up with me. Had it on a motorcycle going over 100 and it did just fine. The only complaints I have I know they are working on. Most people expect a product to be perfect when it ships but because this product is an evolving product due to it's users that simply wasn't possible. We the users will continue to help make this product better and better.
By far they spent more time on the hardware than the software. However, I would rather them spend more time on the things they can't change later and less on the things they can change later. We got the product early. But that doesn't discount it's value as a product even one month down the road.
good work Geo... Keep it up.

Getting There |
The hardware is living up to my expectations. It is faster than my current GPS. I like the fact that there is an internal compass. I really like the fact that I can add in a comprehensive notation to a waypoint, unlike the current GPS I have that limits me to an eight character name.
Yes, it is quirky. But then, it is in a rev. 1 with another release to fix a lot of the problems listed in the review. Will it replace my current GPS on a backpack trip? Not yet, but I think it will sometime in the near future.

Almost works |
Total let down, after this long wait, I was extremely disappointed with this unit. Particularly since it is the only module which crashed my Visor continuously and my friends, losing all your data twice a day wasnt worth $289, I would rather be lost.
