Satellite Coverage to Patchy? |
What’s up with the “satellite coverage too patchy complaint”? Where is this guy? Hiding in a cave? I haven’t had a problem yet. I live at 3500 elevation, it snows up here and there are mountains all around. I’ve had the HandyGPS on Map mode (driving in my truck) and it maybe lost connection twice for 5 seconds tops but it immediately locked on again.
The HandyGPS is a reliable GPS module, I only hopes they come out with more mapping software, i.e.; topo maps.

Remarkable |
This is remarkable. I received my HandyGPS over a week ago, and yes, there were some “user errors”. The customer support is excellent. They “held my hand” through the whole process, registration, downloading maps, locking on to four satellites, using GPS mode, using map mode, and explaining what all the icons did. I was never on hold. They graciously asked me to call back if I was experimenting any more difficulty. I definitely recommend the HandyGPS, it works, it’s affordable, and the customer service is great!

One Happy Customer |
I couldn' believe it. The HandyGPS actually worked! After reading all the reviews, I was skeptic to purchase the unit. With a thirty day money back guarantee, I thought "what could I possibily lose". Well I received the unit, and registered with the help of customer service ( I was entering W instead of V V on my Reg. ID). After I got registered and tried to download the maps, I ran into some problems, here I go calling customer service again. I was told my browser needed to be updated, so I had to go to Microsoft and download the 5.0 version. Wow, now I get to download the maps! Well I downloaded the maps. Now I was ready to try out my HandyGPS. I go to the satellite window and nothing pops up, (I was in the garage). So I call customer service, again. (They know me by name now!) They advise that I go outside in open sky, (do I feel dumb? Yes) So we go outside and still no satellites. A simple mistake they inform me is that I was laying the Visor flat in my hand, it must be vertical. Now I see 2 satellites and get so excited, they had to laugh with me! Ok, so they tell me to wait for 4 BLACK satellites before switching to the mapping software. I get 5 black satellites, imagine my delight! So now they even offer to walk me through using the mapping software. I see the pumping black dot of my status and scroll in and out, this is too cool, it's working. The Customer Service Rep then talked me through naming my POI. She then told me to print out the Ubigo Manual on the Nexian website. Very helpful Customer Service, I think if I was more likely to read directions instead of winging it, I might not have needed them. But I'm like every other American out there, who needs directions, when you can call and talk to somebody who already knows what they are doing. Oh and one complaint, the battery issue, I got about 3 hours worth. Definetly need to fix that!

Tech Savvy Sister |
My sister gave me the HandyGPS as a birthday gift, I guess as a hint to be more tech savvy. I had never heard of GPS before and had no idea of what was going on. Luckily I had my twelve year old daughter Brianna to help me out! After reading the HandyGPS manual and the Ubigo Manual, we were ready to test it out. We went out to the parking lot and couldn't get a connection. I could'nt understand it. So my daughter called for tech support. They informed her to hold the HandyGPS vertical. (You learn something new everyday!) Well we tried it again and received six satellite in less than a minute, I think this is where Brianna confiscated it! The device is definetly user friendly since my daughter is able to use it no problemo. We've recorded our trips to the mall and have POI'd our house, mall, park etc... Definetly a great gift giver, especialy if they've been out of the "loop" for a while.

It works! |
I received the HandyGPS as an early Valentine gift the other day and have been pleased with it ever since. It seem's like they have a bad rap for no reason on this site. If you go to Amazon.com and look at the customer reviews for the HandyGPS, you can see that the majority of them are pretty happy. I've had no problem connecting to satellites or using the mapping software. I also printed the Quick Start Guide on using the HandyGPS that was very helpful. You can find common FAQ's and the Quick Start GUide at www.nexian.com
It seem's like the most common mistake is the customer holding the Visor flat in their palm instead of vertical. I've used the Gps in my car, I just wrap the base of the visor in a towel and prop the module on the dashboard pointing out towards the open sky.
I give the thumbs!

It's ok for $150 |
I received a HandyGPS for Christmas. After a few days of testing, I got it to work pretty well. I highly recommend getting a Samsonite suction-up Palm holder for your car as it really helps the HandyGPS. Now I just leave the GPS module in my car and plug it into my mounted Visor when I need it. True, initial satellite lock takes some time (a few blocks usually), but after that I get pretty good lock. I lose a lock going under overpasses on the highway, but the HandyGPS always reaquires lock right after I emerge. I would like the software to be better, so I'm looking forward to the Rand McNally StreetFinder software. Hopefully, it will be in color. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the unit.

Same problems |
I can't imagine that a company would rush such a product of poor quality out on the market.

Satellite coverage too patchy |
I couldn't keep satellite coverage with the HandyGPS, whcih renders it useless (besides draining the battery)
