Simply doesn't work |
I have never resolved a satellite with this device and have compared it along side an Eagle Expedition II standard size GPS receiver which works quickly and efficiently in the same location as the HandyGPS. I have new batteries, adjusted the setup location and time to my area and have waited as long as 10 minutes for a satellite. Going back to PalmGear.com. I will be buying and testing a Geode GPS.

Take your chances.... |
I was one of the original buyers of the HandyGPS when it came out last summer. I was very excited about this product...until I actually had to use it. It NEVER worked for me. And yes, they were new batteries, I had a view of the open sky, blah, blah ,blah. I design satellites for a living, so I trust me when I tell you that I tried EVERYTHING to get this thing working. Not once did it lock onto more than 1 satellite. It spent most of its time wasting my time, batteries, and locking up my visor. I even did a hard reset on my visor to bring it back to "virgin" conditions and it still locked up my visor. I understand if there were problems with the design or some flaw, but to charge me for S&H when I sent the unit back was too much for me. For those of you that have experience with REAL GPS units, you will be disappointed with the HandyGPS (unless you end up being the VERY lucky few that got the leprachaun-enhanced units, of course). Roll the dice and good luck!

Once I got 2 satilites. . . |
I thought it would be a good idea to pick one of these up. After 7 minutes, I had two of the four satalites, and t hen when I shifted my weight I lost one. . . That went to back to Amazon.com the next day

Buying HandyGPS is like playing the lottery |
I purchased the HandyGPS immediately after Thanksgiving, and never even managed to connect to a single satellite (one trial attempt lasted a full 60 minutes). Support from Nexian was next to worthless. I have seen the exact response I received quoted by others in the discussion forums, so I basically got back a boilerplate response without them even giving me the courtesy of reading me original request.
I ended up returning the unit, with basically meant I threw away $27 in shipping changes to receive absolutely nothing. From the discussion forums, it would appear I am not the only one to have experienced these sorts of problems. The unit appears to work fine for some people, but it certainly appears to be a crap-shoot on whether you will get a working unit or a useless one.

HandyGPS has its annoyances but it's still Worth $150 |
HandyGPS is tough on batteries, the maps take up a lot of room, and the interface has some minor problems. However, I have used it twice already to find streets that I didn't know. You can select a street as your destination and it'll show you where it is on your map in relation to you and tell you how far away you are from your goal. It's not the greatest GPS system out there but it's for the Visor and it's only $150! In my opinion - It's a good buy if you travel or hike.
